A LUDLOW GP surgery is offering a new service for people with a heart condition.

Station Drive Surgery in Ludlow will be hosting a new community-based echocardiography service in collaboration with Physiological Measurements Ltd, who provide these services for the NHS.

Echocardiography is required when a GP or cardiologist believes that ultrasound images, rather like those seen when looking at unborn babies in the womb, are required to better understand heart function.

“When you reach criteria for echocardiography, your own GP can request this investigation,” said Dr James Harris, a partner at Station Drive Surgery.

“Now you will no longer need to travel to Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry or Hereford.”

The first clinic has been held at Station Drive Surgery.

“When your own GP refers you for echocardiography you will usually receive a letter from the Referral Assessment Service (RAS) inviting you to call them to organise your appointment date,” added Dr Harris.

“You can now opt to have echocardiography locally at Station Drive Surgery, Ludlow – working together to provide great care.”

Echocardiography is a non-invasive and entirely painless procedure.
