STALLS in Hereford's Butter Market were joined by 27 business pop-ups to celebrate the refurbishment work taking place.

The Butter Market's Big Day saw a mix of businesses selling items from locally produced food to drinks to crafts, alongside the full time traders.

The building was bought by Darren Sockett at the end of 2016 from Herefordshire Council and he has been gradually giving the market a makeover with new stalls and also carrying out essential repairs.

Moira Davidson organised the day on behalf of the Butter Market. She said: "Darren always had the vision of organising ‘pop-up’ stands to the market to keep things interesting and varied.

"I thought why not do a whole day of them to show off the work so far and make a new audience aware of the eclectic mix of what is available in the market every day?"

The spaces all went within ten days of putting the idea out there.

She said it was a great day and everyone said how good it was to see the market so busy.

Moira added: "We were very clear that the day was as much about the permanent businesses in there so they all joined in with special deals or discounts and several have said they had their best trading day so far this year.

"We’re really pleased with how it went and loved that so many people, most of whom have such fond memories of the Butter Market, came out to support the event."

The plan is to do more days like this and they already have ten pop-up stalls booked for March 17. To find out more search @ButterMarketHfd on Twitter.
