KINGTON is agog with alleged reports of a white truck colliding with a row of four parked cars in a busy street.

After the incident in Victoria Road on Friday, in which the vehicles were claimed to have been seriously damaged, there were even fears that the town had been subject to a terrorist attack.

One woman described the scene as “surreal” when she joined a crowd gathering at the scene. “People were saying what on earth’s happened, it was unbelievable.”

She continued: “A blue car was the first car to be hit by a mixer lorry, and was then pushed down the road into a Fiesta which was pushed up on the kerb and into the wall, before hitting a Skoda Yeti.”

The woman added: “The driver stopped and picked up some debris off the road and drove on down the road and hit a Range Rover.”

She described the scene in Victoria Road, close to Kington Youth Hostel, as “carnage”. She was so stunned she found herself “laughing with disbelief”, she said.

“It was so surreal, you don’t expect things like this to happen in Kington. We are all at a loss to know what happened.”

There were even fears among some that Kington had suffered a terrorist attack, she said.

An owner of one of the cars, believed to be a write off, said while the incident had caused real inconvenience, she was not angry.

“I don’t know what happened, what the circumstances were, so I can’t be angry about it, I just thank God that nobody was in any of the cars or that there was no-one on the pavement at the time.”

Councillor Terry James said the incident was “all the talk of Kington.”

A police spokesman confirmed that officers were called to the scene at 11.50am on Friday January 12.

"A white truck is understood to have been in collision with a number of parked vehicles,” he said.

"A blue Renault Clio, a silver Ford Fiesta Zetec, a blue Skoda Yeti, a land Rover silver estate and a red Fabia Skoda suffered damage.

"No-one was injured.”

He continued: "The white truck failed to stop at the scene but has since made contact with officers.
