A NINE-year-old girl from Hereford has donated her long locks to charity.

Emma Dawson wanted to donate her beautiful blonde hair to a child less fortunate than her – and her family were shocked but delighted when she came up with the idea all by herself.

She had the choice of donating seven inches or 12 inches but opted to have 12 inches of her hair cut.

Emma's father, Andrew Dawson, said: "Emma's family and friends are so proud of her for doing such an amazing, kind-hearted, thoughtful, wonderful thing at the very young age of nine."

Emma has also raised money for the charity through sponsorship.

Her family added: "Thank you to everyone who sponsored Emma. Well done Emma, you are amazing and we are all so proud of you."
