THIS year's Herefordshire Country Fair is going to be held in the city.

For the first time, the fair is moving into Hereford and will take place at the King George V playing fields on Sunday, August 6.

Visitors can expect the usual country fair favourites including terrier racing, working gun dogs, inter hunt relay, scurry racing, laser clay shooting, fly fishing and a parade of foxhounds.

It is the 39th year for the fair and it has been held at various places over the years- last year was held in Caradoc, near Ross-on-Wye,

The fair in the city is being held in conjunction with the First World War Commemoration Committee- there will be educational displays about the commitment, hard work and sacrifices made by the civilian population during the war years, and how this contributed to the eventual victory.

The emphasis will be on 1917 to commemorate 100 years on. 1917 was a pivotal time during the war– true hardship had set in and the results of conscription, rationing and shortages called for extraordinary efforts to be made by the whole population.

As well as three rings of entertainment, there will also be more than 100 trade stands, the shopping and craft marquee and the food hall.

There will be equestrian and dog competitions and displays running throughout the day, including a parachute jump by Jump 4 Heroes, a Royal British Legion Extreme Human Flight team at 2pm.

James Dylan’s Stuntword, an international motorcycle stunt show, will take to the main arena with a display both in the morning and afternoon.

The Cavalry of the Heroes will be performing a commemoration of the Horses of the First World War, showing saddle tricks, Cavalry Charges and demonstration of horses in Warfare.

There is also a Motor Village, showcasing the best in new models and the ever popular Classic Car Display, and children's entertainment.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children (5 to 15). The gates open at 8.30am and last entry is at 3.30pm, with the fair continuing until 6pm.
