PRESTEIGNE Carnival was another success with a large number of floats in the procession and fun had throughout the day.

The carnival which has been running for the last four years following a 17-year absence is going from strength to strength.

The procession started at John Beddoes School campus and proceeded through the High Street to the Carnival Field at Wents Meadow where a range of activities and performances were held.

"It was really well attended and a really busy afternoon with lots going on including the Welsh Axemen competition and the stunt men," said Presteigne councillor Beverley Baynham.

"There was also a high entry of about 10 floats being pulled by tractors, trailers and cars, which is a lot for a small carnival.

"The carnival is not about making money for charity and anything made goes into making it bigger and better next year. It's a day out for the whole community and most people attended.

"Debbie Davies was the Carnival Chairman and did a really good job. Most people said it was a really good turnout in the afternoon and into the evening when music was played."

Presteigne's firefighters took part in their own fundraising challenge as part of the carnival walking with their ladder seven miles from Knighton to Presteigne before taking part in the procession.

They raised money for a firefighting charity and Presteigne Playgroup, who are looking to buy extra equipment for the public playpark.
