ROOMS above commercial premises in a Hereford street were raided by police and council officials over concerns for the wellbeing of people living there.

Vulnerable individuals were reportedly found in rooms above Munchies and Wok and Rice in Commercial Road.

A Herefordshire Council spokesman said: "Herefordshire Council’s Environmental Health and Trading Standards officers took emergency action last week to safeguard the health and safety of people living in rooms above food premises on Commercial Road, Hereford.

"The case is subject to ongoing investigations in co-ordination with other regulatory agencies, and it would therefore not be appropriate to make further comment at this time."

Inspector Carl Paskin of West Mercia Police said it was an intelligence-led investigation, working alongside partner agencies from Trading Standards and UK Visas and Immigration, as part of a national operation called Trivium.

He added: “Our main focus was to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those vulnerable individuals found within the premises.

"The case has now been referred to the Home Office."
