COUNTY parents are finding out which primary school their child will be attending from September – and the vast majority have secured a place at their first choice.

Herefordshire Council has made 1,899 offers with 93.3% of those classed within the "first preference" group.

A total of 67 offers – or 3.5% – were given to the parents' second choice while 12 offers – or 0.7% of the total offers – were in the third choice category.

Those figures combined meant that 97.5% of parents had been offered a place at one of their top three choices.

Herefordshire Council said that the remaining 48 parents, whose preferences could not be met, were given an offer for the nearest school to their home address with available spaces.

As in previous years, Herefordshire schools are a net importer of pupils, with more pupils from neighbouring counties requesting places in the county’s schools than Herefordshire pupils requesting places in neighbouring counties.

There are currently 19 Herefordshire primary schools with waiting lists and 51 have available spaces.

In comparison to last year, the council offered 1,839 places of which 94.7% were first preferences and 98.4% were one of three preferences.
