HEREFORDSHIRE North MP Bill Wiggin - a Brexit campaigner -  has said he is delighted Britain has voted to leave the EU, but 'disappointed' at the decision of the Prime Minister to step down.

His parliamentary colleague Jesse Norman, MP for Herefordshire South said he respected the Prime Minister's decision to step down and paid tribute to his 'effective leadership'.

Mr Wiggin has been a vociferous backer of the Brexit campaigner, using his columns in the Hereford Times to back the campaign to leave, over the last few months.

"I am delighted that the people of the UK, in exercising their democratic right to vote, have voted to leave the European Union," he said.

"We have decided to take back control of the UK. This is a momentous day and a very exciting time for British Politics.

"I firmly believe that this decision will lead to a more prosperous future for the people of Britain, as we reaffirm our position as a great European power heading into a bright future.

"I would also like to place on record my disappointment at the news that the Prime Minister is to step down.

"Mr Cameron has led our party and this country over the years. He led us to a deserved majority at the last election, delivered a one nation Conservative government, and it is his bravery that allowed this once in a generation Referendum to take place.

"I wish him and his family the best for the future."

Jesse Norman said the British people had made a decision and it was now for Parliament to implement it.

"That will require thought, time, and careful preparation.

"I respect David Cameron's decision to step down in October, and pay tribute to his very good and effective leadership of the Conservative party over the past eleven years.

"In Herefordshire, voter turnout was high; I think this reflects the county's social cohesion and sense of duty, as well as the extensive public debate we have had over the past few months."
