AN exhibition of new work by Abstract Edge will run from Saturday, November 28 to Saturday, December 5 at St. Mary's Church in Bucknell.

Abstract Edge is a group of artists who have come together because of a shared enthusiasm for painting in an abstract or semi-abstract way.

The exhibition at St. Mary's will show a mixture of framed work and small unframed works on paper. Some of it will be semi-abstract, taking a landscape, organic, form or still life as its starting point. Others may be completely abstract, making no explicit reference to the external world but relying on shape, colour, line and texture to create an image that is engaging in its own right, to which the viewer can respond. Most people feel more comfortable with images that bear some resemblance to reality, but the interest of abstract art is that each person can bring their own interpretation to it. No image has only one meaning.

Brought together in 2004 by Rae Harrison, the group meets regularly in one another's studios, providing support by looking at work-in-progress, and discussing the work of other artists, and visiting exhibitions together.

Members come from as far afield as Denbigh, Worcester, Ross-on-Wye, Churchstoke, and exhibitions have been held in many venues over the last 10 years, including The Courtyard, Ludlow Assembly Rooms, The Bond in Birmingham, Leominster, Presteigne, Craven Arms and Knighton.

There will be a preview on Saturday, November 28 from 11am to 1pm. The exhibition will then be open daily between 11am and 4pm.
