A MEDIEVAL coin found in Kington has been declared treasure.
The British Museum identified the find as a Medieval pierced silver sceat (coin).
It was discovered by Alun Crichton from Llewellyn Road, Kington last October.
He had used a metal detector, with permission from the landowner.
The treasure inquest at Hereford Coroner's Court heard the coin had been dated to circa 710AD and had approximately a quarter missing.
The piercing suggested the coin was used as a pendant or part of a necklace.
The finding of a sceat in western Britain is rare, the inquest heard.
Coroner Mark Bricknell declared the find as treasure as its silver content is in excess of ten percent and it is older than 300 years old.
It will now go forward for an evaluation.
Mr Crichton and the landowner will donate it to the Kington Museum.
