HEREFORDSHIRE soldiers who died while serving their country in Afghanistan are remembered in a new book.

Steven Sherwood, William Aldridge, Paul McAleese and Daniel Cooper are among the 453 members of the United Kingdom Armed Forces who lost their life during the 13-year conflict which officially ended last year.

All are remembered in the publication which features a tribute to every soldier who died.

It has been put together by Albert Owens MBE, the memorial custodian of the Palace Barracks Memorial Garden in Holywood, Northern Ireland.

"I decided to do something different for those who died in Afghanistan which has never been done before," said Mr Owens.

"I have written this Roll of Honour photographic journal for the families and comrades of those men and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

"It hopefully will be a tangible collection for all those memories."

Steven Sherwood, from Ross-on-Wye, died in October 2005, aged 23, in southern Afghanistan.

William Aldridge, who was from Bromyard, became the youngest soldier to die in the conflict when he was killed in 2009 aged just 18.

Twenty nine-year-old Hereford man Paul McAleese died following an explosion in the Sangin district of Helmand Province in August 2009.

And Daniel Cooper, who was 22, died from wounds sustained in an explosion while in Helmand Province in January 2010.
