THE county's youngest goat farmer has taken a very special delivery this month.

Ten-year-old Myles Lloyd, from Hereford, is the newest and youngest member of Herefordshire Goat Club (HGC).

And a long-time obsession with the animals was fulfilled when he took delivery of his first herd of goats – a nanny and two kids – after spending time with Boer goat farmer, Bert Ruff, at his Leintwardine farm.

Bert's wife, Elizabeth Ruff, said: "Myles has been obsessed with Boer goats for ages, and had done a lot of research about their care and saved-up for months to be able to buy some.

"Bert was very impressed with Myles' enthusiasm and knowledge, and that he'd already approached his local butcher about buying any wethers that he might rear.

"By the end of the visit Bert had agreed to consider selling him a nanny and her two kids – one nanny to increase the herd, and one wether."

The goats were to be kept at Myles' grandparents' small-holding, near to his home, and, after agreeing a price, he took delivery of the goats earlier this month.

"When Bert left it looked as though Myles intended spending the night with his embryo herd," Mrs Ruff added.
