MORE than sixty local people attended a special tea party at the restaurant at Leadon Bank to remember Margaret Eaton, a stalwart of the Evergreen Club.
Miss Eaton, who died in August, aged 84, ran the club for more than 20 years.
Margaret spent the greater part of her working life with the British Red Cross overseas and had seen service in the Solomon Islands, Bermuda. She always said that her favourite overseas posting was to the Pacific island of Kiribati.
Barbara Langlois, who now runs the Evergreen Club, said “Margaret had very high standards and her idea of an afternoon tea was to be served dainty sandwiches with crusts removed, bite sized meringues, éclairs and other fancies, with pots of tea all served on starched white table clothes! Margaret was well loved and greatly respected. We shall all mourn her passing.”
