A STOLEN council-marked Land Rover ploughed into Aldi in Chipping Norton, in an attempt to steal a cash machine.

The attempted burglary at the Banbury Road store is the latest in a succession of attempts on ATM machines in the Cotswolds and saw damage done to the Aldi store.

Three cash machines have also been ripped out in nearby Bourton-on-the-Water in the last two years and police are not ruling out that the incidents are linked.

There have also been failed efforts to steal a cash machine in both Upper Rissington and Broadway.

The attempted burglary happened at around 12.40am on Tuesday morning.
