DUCK racing helped to raise over £1300 for charities.

North Cotswolds Rotary Club's annual duck racing on the green at Bourton on Saturday raised the money for Kate's Home Nursing, Great Western Air Ambulance, Canine Partners, and Street Children of Cambodia.

The number of visitors was down on last year due to the weather but it stayed dry long enough to complete 12 races at half-hourly intervals.

Families with young children enjoyed the event, which also proved popular with tourists from Europe and as far afield as Japan and South Korea.

Vikki Wherlock, visiting from Bristol after getting married at Hyde Barn the day before, wrote her married name for the first time after her three children, Keegan, Emily and Alfie had chosen ducks with their favourite numbers.

“It’s funny to be writing my married name for the first time at a duck racing event,” said Mrs Wherlock.

Club president Peter Boxall thanked Bob and Sue Hadley, Janet Prout, Irene Summers, Ronnie Wright from the Rotary Club of Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands, and to all who helped on the day.
