A GOLF fundraising day for a football club has received a donation from a housebuilder before the event.

Shipston Excelsior FC have received a £500 donation from Taylor Wimpey Midlands which build across Shropshire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

The golf event, which will tee-off on Friday June 9 at Feldon Valley Golf Club, will raise funds for the club and the upkeep of its facilities.

Simon Redshaw, production manager for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, and a junior team coach at Shipston Excelsior FC said: "The club holds this special fundraising day each year. “We do really rely on events like this to raise money for the teams and facilities.

“We aim to get as many teams and sponsors as we can involved in the golf day, which is one of the biggest events on the club’s calendar.

"We play all 18 holes of the course and we give prizes to competitors, such as longest drive, closest to the pin, and so on.

“In past years, we have raised about £2,000 for the club from the event, but this year we are setting ourselves a tough target of £5,000.

"After receiving this massive drive from Taylor Wimpey, we are confident that we will meet it.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has agreed to support the event, including Taylor Wimpey – we couldn’t do it without them."
