A COTSWOLD bus company will launch a new smartcard to create a safer and cheaper journey.

Pulhams Coaches have designed the card which will run like an Oyster Card with money being topped up either online or on the bus with cash.

Finance director Kathryn Pulham said: "The idea is that it is much safer, people do not need to carry cash with them.

"It also makes journeys a lot less of a hassle.

"They can top up online or on the bus, and it just makes the whole process a lot easier, which will hopefully get people out of their cars and onto the bus to make people more fuel efficient.

"The card also offers a nice 10 percent discount and I don't think there is another bus service in the local area that offers a card like this."

The smartcard will launch on Monday (March 6) and costs £1 to purchase although it offers a 10 percent discount on any fare.

Pulhams Coaches operates buses in Stow, Bourton-on-the-Water and Moreton as well as in Kemble and Northleach.
