A TOWN band won an annual competition open to groups across the south west.

Shipston Town Band, conducted by Howard Gibbs, competed at Marlborough School in Woodstock during the competition organised by the Oxford and District Brass Band Association.

The band came first whilst competing against nine other bands from the Midlands, London Counties and the South West, awarded 191 points out of a possible 200 by adjudicator Nicholas Garman.

They performed St Andrews Variations by the Scottish composer Alan Fernie.

The competition took place on Sunday February 26.

In two weeks time the band will be competing in the Midland Area Championships at Bedworth and will be hoping to enjoy further success.
