A COTSWOLD cricket club is fighting for its future.

Bourton Vale Cricket Club needs to raise over £250,000 for a new clubhouse.

The existing clubhouse is decaying and the chairman of the club claims it will not last more than this season.

Kevin Langley, chairman of the club said: "Without a clubhouse we have no club.

"The existing clubhouse part of which is nearly 100 years old is severely decaying and will not survive more than the next season.

"The redevelopment project is essential to the ongoing success of our club.

"Negotiations with the English Cricket Board and other potential funding institutions have been underway for some months and we are optimistic of significant support due to the fact that we are a community club supplying cricket to 150 plus juniors, a ladies team and two senior men teams.

"We hope that our new clubhouse will also contribute as an overflow facility to the Bourton on the Water Community Centre."

The club, based at Rissington Road, has been granted planning permission, but held an AGM on Monday February 8, which the club's Facebook page described as 'arguably the most important meeting in the club's history.'

The club has set up a debenture scheme, giving supporters the chance to invest through secured loan notes.

The loan notes are secured in proportion to the value of the clubhouse and are repayable after 25 years.

Mr Langley added: "Through a combination of the schemes we believe we can achieve the funds we require."

The club currently has two senior teams competing in West of England Premier League, a ladies team and four junior teams.
