A CHIPPING Campden convenience store remains closed for a second week after a fire gutted the inside of the property.

The fire service was called to the fire at One Stop shop in High Street, which happened on the morning of Monday, January 9.

Two engines, one from Chipping Campden and another from Norton, attended and extinguished the fire at the shop, which is on the ground floor of a three storey building.

The blaze caused significant damage, and repair work is now underway to get the shop reopen.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said that around half of the ground floor had been destroyed by the fire.

The spokesman added there were no suspicious circumstances.

An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: "The emergency services were really quick to the scene, about five or six minutes.

"No one was hurt or injured.

"It was inside the building. There was no structural damage - it looked like more smoke than fire."

A spokesman for One Stop said: "We have begun the process of rebuild but are still at the initial stages of assessing the damage and repairs required which means we cannot accurately give an estimated re-opening date.

"We are working to get this done as quickly as we can for our local customers, and value their patience."
