A MAJOR project to replace more than a mile of water pipes has been completed - just in time for Christmas.

Severn Trent poured £200,000 into updating old pipes in Winchcombe, with work taking place over 15 weeks in High Street, North Street, Back Lane and Gretton Road.

The investment is hoped to give the people of Winchcombe a more reliable water supply and should mean fewer bursts and interruptions to the service.

Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, said: "We’re really proud of this work in Winchcombe and we’re excited to be finished so the local people can start to see the benefits of this hard work.

"We were also happy that we finished in time for everyone to enjoy the Winchcombe Christmas Fayre.

"We really want to thank the people of Winchcombe for all the support and patience they’ve shown us as we worked in the town and also to the town council and local businesses for their continued support as we carried out this vital work.

"We hope the people of Winchcombe have a great Christmas and once again, thank you to everyone for your patience and support as we carried out this important work for your town."

The old pipes had become weak over time and were prone to cracking, leading to the decision by Severn Trent to replace the system.

Amey carried out the work on behalf of Severn Trent and several road closures were put in place at different stages of the project.
