A BLAZE which swept across fields near Kingswinford is believed to have been started deliberately, the fire service has said.
Numerous 999 calls were made about the fire which was raging across farmland off Doctors Lane, Ashwood, on Wednesday night.
Ten firefighters from Dudley and Brierley Hill were dispatched to the scene at around 9.20pm and on arrival they found the land, close to Ashwood Lodge Farm, “well alight” – a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said.
The blaze, captured on video above by West Midlands Fire Service crew commander Wayne Roe, affected around one hectare of farmland and is thought to have been started deliberately – the spokesman added.
Adam Cartlidge from Brierley Hill, spotted the flames while flying model aircraft and also captured the fiery scene on camera (see below) as he went to investigate.
Both Staffordshire and West Midlands Police, however, have said they were not aware of the incident.
