FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a "large fire" at a sawmill near Cookley in the early hours of this morning (February 24).

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) crews tackled the blaze at the building at around 4.30am on Friday morning (February 24) in Blakeshall, near Cookley.

Two crews from the Kidderminster station attended, plus another from Kinver, and fire fighters used two jets to get the blaze under control.

A water carrier based at Leominster was also sent to the scene.

Crews were still on the scene several hours later, damping down.

Grant Wills, group commander for HWFRS, tweeted that the crews worked really hard to prevent any spread to the surrounding area.

A spokesman from HWFRS said: "The building is currently used as a sawmill."
