A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Worcester.

Stunned Battenhall Road neighbours first became aware there was incident in their leafy suburb when they awoke to see a police presence this morning, (May 26).

West Mercia Police were called to an address in the road at 5.54am, and detained a 53-year-old suspect.

A police spokesperson said: "A 53-year-old woman was taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 53-year-old man has been arrested. He was also taken to hospital with stab wounds, which are not believed to be suspicious."

The Worcester News understands the two are known to each other, and are being cared for in different hospitals.

A reporter went to the scene this morning, and saw two officers guarding the entrance of the property, which had birthday cards and a balloon in the window.

Two vehicles were parked on the driveway of the property, a Peugeot and Vauxhall.

There were also two police vans and two police cars parked outside, while forensics officers were spotted carrying bags of evidence from the semi-detached house. Another officer interviewed neighbours about the incident.

A Battenhall Road resident, who did not want to be named, said he was shocked to hear about the stabbing.

"It is not sort of thing that I'd expect here," the resident said.

"It is a quiet, calm neighbourhood and you would never imagine something like this could happen.

"It is such a relief to hear that the victim's injuries are not life-threatening."
