AN Ombersley woman swung into action when a swan was spotted wandering in a Worcester road.

The swan was spotted at around noon on November 25 in the busy City Walls Road, and passers-by managed to guide him to a nearby car park.

But when the swan was reluctant to go to the River Severn, refusing to move from a puddle, quick thinking Trudy Stirzaker decided to act.

The 43-year-old, from Ombersley, said: "Another lady said she thought he might have come from the canal alongside The Commandery.

"I thought someone had to do something.

"I went to Benedicto's Italian Restaurant and explained that I needed a tablecloth to cover the swan, to minimise distress.

"I took him under my arm and carried him to the canal.

"He was swimming away immediately after I released him - he seemed to make a chipping sound, to thank me."

Trudy said she later returned to the canal after shopping and spotted the bird happily with their mate, seemingly having recovered from the adventure.
