A dog thrown over the fence of an animal rescue centre near Malvern is now on the look out for a new home after overcoming its horrible ordeal.

Named Betty by the staff at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS) the dog was spotted in the corner of the shelter site by a hedge row.

The little terrier was distraught and scared shelter says, but they eventually managed to coax her from her hiding spot.

Over the last month, she has grown in confidence and is no longer too afraid to go near people.

Claire Tregunna, manager of the shelter in Newland, said: "The WARS site is fully enclosed and the staff could only gather one option on how the little one ended up on site- she was thrown over the fence.

"This would explain why she was nervous and scared. She was put into isolation with staff going in to access her and get her used to human contact. Initially she was very wary and would not come near anyone but after a few days she started to trust the staff and would come and sit on their laps, enjoying a nice cuddle.

"She really is a sweet little thing."
