THE chairman of the organisation providing the majority of community nursing, therapy and mental health services in Worcestershire has had his tenure extended by a further two years.

Chris Burdon has been at the head of Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust since it was formed in 2011.

Now it has been announced the Trust Development Authority, which is responsible for appointing chairmen and non-executive directors to NHS trust boards, has re-appointed him until the end of June 2017.

Mr Burdon said he was planning to use his extended tenure to build on the success the trust has experienced over the past four years.

“We have achieved a lot already, including opening the New Haven Unit which is a flagship environment for older people with dementia and other mental health difficulties,” he said.

“We have created a vibrant Youth Board to improve young people’s experience of using the trust’s services and have received national acclaim for lots of our community and mental health services.

“My aim for the next two years is to build on that and to ensure we maintain and where possible enhance the quality of the services we provide against what is a very demanding and changing health landscape.”

The organisation is also hoping on becoming a Foundation Trust in the coming months.
