THE leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, Councillor Barry Norton, has been honoured with a Knighthood in today’s (Thursday)Dissolution Honours List.
Councillor Norman MacRae, chairman of West Oxfordshire District Council said: “Cllr Barry Norton plays a central role in the local political scene working tirelessly on behalf of the residents of West Oxfordshire both as a member of the district council for North Leigh since 1983 and its leader since 2001. He has always carried out his duties with distinction throughout that time. As chairman of the council I am thrilled that his dedication is being honoured with a knighthood.
“Cllr Norton is completely dedicated to local issues, taking all his duties extremely seriously. He could be described as a great example of a ‘grassroots’ councillor who also has vision of what can be achieved in a wider context.
“He holds a pivotal role in the council, leading on major projects and is a strong supporter of the local economy and tourism and has been a pioneer and keen advocate for shared services.”
