BOROUGH residents are being urged to nominate their local sporting heroes for a chance to pick up a Black Country Sports Award.

Until September 10, nominations of players, coaches, schools and businesses – across 10 categories – are being accepted for this year’s Black Country Sport and Physical Activity Awards in November.

The Awards are part of the work of the Black Country Be Active Sports Partnership, which has jointly celebrated local community heroes as well as Black County professionals that have taken part in Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Dudley Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member responsible for health and wellbeing, said: “It’s a great privilege to know that all of us in the borough have a chance to celebrate the hard work and dedication so many are putting in to invigorate our local sporting scene.

“I am looking forward to find out who the category winners will be and I am sure those victories will be made all the sweeter because they’ll be truly be the voice of the people.”

The 10 categories are sportsperson, disabled sportsperson, young sportsperson, community club, community coach, community project, newcomer, school business in sport and unsung hero.
