THE playground of a school in Bromsgrove has been treated to a colourful makeover thanks to the efforts of a team of teachers and parents, and a local DIY firm.

The reception class playground at St Peter’s Catholic First School in Rock Hill was in need of a little TLC, with some of the play equipment not having been painted for seven years, and in need of replacement or upgrading.

The school approached Bromsgrove company Broad Street DIY to help out with the project, and Lisa Childs, who is the director at the Worcester Road store, agreed to donate supplies for the project including paint brushes, cleaning materials and some of the specialist paint, as well as heavily discounting the rest of their shopping list.

She said: “I have school age children and understand schools sometimes need financial help for projects outside of school budgets. It’s important for children to have a good outdoor play area and we were happy to be able to help.”

Ms Childs even picked up a paintbrush to help out with the makeover, and provided her professional DIY advice.

Mrs Sophie Cole, a reception class teacher at St Peter’s, added: “Broad Street DIY has been incredibly supportive of this project. In April Lisa visited the school to look at the site and consider our requirements. She then prepared a plan of action for us to work to, along with recommendations for the most suitable materials for the various jobs. We are very grateful for all her help.”
