THE 70th anniversary of VE Day is being celebrated at Cradley Heath's Haden Hill House Museum this bank holiday Monday.

Staff at the museum are preparing celebrate and commemorate the day victory in Europe was sealed during the Second World War.

The event, between noon and 4pm. at the Victorian house and out in the park, off Barrs Rd, will be nostalgic for all ages.

Alison Hyatt, visitor services officer, said: ‘There will be some fabulous live music to get the part started out in the park with Martinique Jazz so why not bring a picnic to enjoy and take part in our street party."

There will be 1940s costumed characters in the house and grounds as well as some fabulous historic vehicles including a 1940s tea truck.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the family entertainment, quizzes and trails and be able to handle some World War II objects.

Jane Hanney, museum services manger, added: "A visitor once told us that on VE day in 1945 Haden Hill park was buzzing with entertainment and bunting and there were people everywhere.

"We also know that the house was used as a food store, to house bombed out families and as a holding place for evacuees before they were given places to stay, so the house has an important connection to the home front in World War II."

She added: "Haden Hall will also be open to the public and the new colour scheme inside will be revealed.

"Our friends group and volunteers have worked hard to give the hall a fresh look in keeping with the 1600s when it was probably first built as a farmhouse."
