THE long, glossy locks of an Evesham woman are being lost in the name of good causes and will go towards helping two worthwhile charities.

Thirty-eight-year-old Emma Diston, who works for Ladbrokes Plc at the town's Port Street branch, is taking part in the Relay for Life event on June 27 which raises money for Cancer Research UK.

Mrs Diston has decided to try and raise more money by agreeing to a headshave.

Her brave decision has seen her initial target of £500 come and go and she now has £1,000 in her sights.

"This will be my first ever Relay for Life, so as well as taking it in turns to walk around the track at De Montfort High School, in Evesham, for the duration of the relay with my team, I wanted to do something a little extra. I thought shaving my head to a grade two would be the way to go," she said, adding that she had been growing her hair for some time.

She also said that she wanted to thank everyone who has sponsored her so far and thanks Dionne Gardner of Unity Salon, Evesham, for agreeing to carry out the hair cut.

"I hate waste, so I will be donating my shorn hair to the Little Princess Trust, which is a great charity which makes wigs for children who have been affected by hair loss through the treatment of cancer. Hopefully my hair will help keep someone else's head warm this winter," said Mrs Diston.

The head shave will take place at Evesham's Tesco store in Old Worcester Road, on Saturday May 23 at 12pm. She will be at the store between 10am and 1pm to give people chance to donate on the day.
