A bowls club is calling out for new members to pick up the balls and join in the fun.

Upton Bowls Club is calling out for more members to play a friendly game, after numbers have dwindled over the last couple of years.

Tony Strutt, of Upton Bowls Club, said: "We need more members as some have passed away over the years, so the numbers have fallen.

"Around eight more members would be ideal, as then we could make use of the facilities available to us, and have two different matches going on at a time and it helps cover costs easier.

"It's definitely worth coming along. It's a friendly game of bowls so nothing serious, and it's also a good laugh and gets people socialising and maintaining friendships. It's also not very expensive to play considering everything that's offered, so we're urging everyone to come along and give it a try.

"It's open to any age group should anyone want to play, but most of our membership is made up of people of the older generation, so the social aspect is great."

Playing at the Hill Centre, all the necessary facilities such as mats, scoring cards and balls are supplied so players can simply turn up and play.

The club, which is now in its 15th year, also provides tea and biscuits during the half-time break.

Playing sessions run from 1.45pm for two hours, on Monday and Wednesday each week.

There is no annual subscription, instead funded on a pay to play basis for a cost of £3.
