IT is a happy end to the year for the abandoned dog nicknamed the "Boomerang" because he kept returning to an animal shelter as he finds a forever home in time for Christmas.

Flynn the Staffordshire bull terrier cross received the moniker after he kept being returned to Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter through no fault of his own.

Happily, the six-year-old dog has now settled into his new home in Lowerwick, Worcester, with Graham and Christobel Whitehead.

He returned to the animal shelter in Newland, near Malvern, once more - but this time it was just to pay a Christmas visit to staff and volunteers as well as see his doggy friends.

Jackie Turner, animal welfare co-ordinator, said: "Flynn is doing brilliantly.

"His new owners are really pleased with him and said it was like he has always been with them.

"He has definitely made himself at home.

"He's enjoying all the walks they give him and it was great to see him again.

"Flynn did remember us and he was so pleased to see us - he looks very, very happy.

"But I don't think we will see him back here for good, just for the odd visits."

Flynn was brought back to the shelter between Worcester and Malvern three times after he first came in as a stray in April 2010.

He was first rehomed in June 2010 but was brought back because his new owners realised they did not have the time to care for him.

Flynn was also brought back to the centre in 2011 because his owners separated and in October last year because his owner had terminal cancer.

Since then, he was desperately waiting for someone else to adopt him and an appeal was made in your Worcester News for a home.

Mrs Turner said they believe he has now found his forever home and were hoping there would be a similar happy ending for the other dogs and cats in their care.

"This weekend we rehomed four pets but we will be slowing down over the next week because there is so much going on it is a busy time for people.

"We had a great response to a previous appeal in the paper for dog walkers but things have been a bit quiet this week because people are out and about.

"We're always looking for more walkers s if anyone else wants to sign up that would be great."
