PEOPLE over the age of 18 in Droitwich are being reminded that they may need to re-apply to register to vote, or they could risk losing out on a vote in next year’s general election.

The electoral registration system has changed this year to make everyone responsible for registering themselves to vote, and while most people were re-registered automatically and received a letter to confirm this, many people who could not be matched automatically, should have received a letter asking them to provide some additional information in order to move them over to the new register.

Forms have been being posted out since June of this year, but now time is running out to reply before the official register is produced.

Elaine Dicks, electoral services manager for Wychavon District council, said: “Many young people and students were amongst the people whose details did not match automatically so we are urging parents to check that they have replied to these letters and have make an application.”

People who don’t return their forms to register, could face problems in the future, not only over losing their right to vote, but also in terms of applying for future credit for things like bank loans, mobile phone contracts and even mortgages.

Applications to be added to the register can be made quickly and simply, either by calling 01386 565437 or at gov.uk/register-to-vote.
