A SLICE of birthday cake will be enjoyed by Upton on Severn’s mayor to celebrate the first anniversary of a town shop on Saturday, August 2.

Councillor Peter Webb and his wife Rosemary will be attending a birthday party to mark the Acorns Children’s hospice store’s inaugural year in the town.

Staff at the Old Street retail outlet are holding an event to say thank you to the town for supporting the charity.

Members of a volunteer’s family have got together to form a band just for the event.

Martin Cullwick will be on trombone and his sons George and Will will be playing tuba and clarinet respectively.

Volunteer Karen Tedds will be joining them on flute to play Happy Birthday ahead of the official cake cutting at 11am.

Shop manager Sarah Langford said: “We’ve had a great first year in Upton on Severn and we’re looking forward to our second.

“We wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the people of Upton.

"We rely on their support not just as customers, but also as donators of goods."

Donations to the shop are accepted 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
