The Paul Rogers blog: Worst Italians to have played in the Premiership

I WAS thinking about writing my blog this week about the phenomenon that is karaoke after reading an article about it, but that would probably mean that I would have to reveal some of my most embarrassing moments (and we don’t want that) so instead I thought I would show you my worst Italian team to ever grace the Premiership.

The Italians have produced some great players over the years and will still pose a threat to England’s chances of progressing to the semi-finals when the two face each other on Sunday night, but are they really that good when you think about?

Of course, England haven’t set the world alight so far in the tournament (hey I almost fell asleep during the first half of the Ukraine game), but I think there is a solidity about this current team and am confident that they can beat the Italians.

NB: We’ll glaze over the two goals conceded against Sweden.

If Roy Hodgson’s men can keep Antonio Di Natale and Mario Balotelli (if he starts) quiet, then in my opinion, England will progress.

It’s just a shame that this team won’t be lining up for the Azzuri on Sunday.

Yes, it’s my all time worst Italian team to ever play in the Premiership.

Who needs Zola, Ravenelli and Vialli, when you can have Silenzi, Lombardo and Grabbi.

I’ve chosen a 23 man squad, as there’s so many to choose from to whittle it down to 11.

Granted, there’s a few (especially strikers who I could have easily picked).

Goalkeepers: Massimo Taibi (Man Utd), Matteo Sereni (Ipswich), Marco Ambrosio (Chelsea)

Defenders: Christian Panucci (Chelsea), Andrea Dossena (Liverpool), Matteo Ferrari (Everton), Alessandro Pistone (Newcastle, Everton), Paolo Tramezzani (Tottenham), Lorenzo Amorouso (Blackburn), Danielle Daino (Derby)

Midfielders: Nicola Berti (Tottenham), Sam Dalla Bona (Chelsea), Attilio Lombardo (Crystal Palace), Gabrielle Ambrosetti (Chelsea), Ivano Bonetti (Crystal Palace), Patrizio Billio (Crystal Palace), Rodrigo Possebon (Man Utd)

Strikers: Dino Baggio (Blackburn), Bernado Corradi (Man City), Corrado Grabbi (Blackburn), Andrea Silenzi (Nottm Forest), Alberto Acquilani (Liverpool), Massimo Maccarone (Middlesbrough).
