The Paul Rogers Blog: Everyone loves to watch talent shows
3:00pm Thursday 10th May 2012 in Paul Rogers Blog By Paul Rogers
THERE never seems to be a month that goes by without some form of talent show being shown on TV.
Whether it is The X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing, or current favourites Britain's Got Talent and The Voice, there is no denying that the great British public love to be entertained in front of the box.
I must admit, I haven't watched much of The Voice .
For anyone who doesn't know, it is currently shown on BBC1 every Saturday night and featured "blind auditions", so that judges Tom Jones, Jessie J, Will-I-Am and Danny O'Donaghue were solely judging their voice.
Initially, part of the programme was shown at the same time as ITV1 rival Britain's Got Talent, with the BBC show coming out on top in the ratings.
But, in my opinion, that was probably due to the fact that it was a new format and viewers were intrigued by it.
There is no doubt that there are some good singers on the show, but as a viewer, I'm not that entertained by it.
It's my own personal taste I know, but I like to watch a bit of variety, which is why I prefer Britain's Got Talent.
I know it could be argued that most of the acts on Britain's Got Talent are singers or dancers, and I agree that there should be more of a variety, but I love the novelty acts that are showcased - not least Pudsey the dancing dog.
Oh and not forgetting Latvian “comedian” Gatis Kandis (great name) and German Dennis Egel, who sang John Miles' Music while dressed a as a gold deity.
Whether or not that they – and some other acts – were allowed to compete because they are not British is open for debate – but they made me laugh, so I’ll let them off.
Tonight is the last live semi-final, and for me the stand-out acts are Face Team – a basketball/trampoline stunt group and synchronised swimmers Aquabatique I have no idea who will win the final on Saturday, but rest assured, it should be entertaining.
