The Paul Rogers blog: Excitement building for the Olympics
10:00am Thursday 29th March 2012 in Paul Rogers Blog By Paul Rogers
I WAS going to write about yet more traffic problems in Hereford this week and trying to explain how a small gas leak could grind the city to a halt.
But we all know what needs to be done to alleviate the congestion (it begins with a b if anyone is wondering) and if I end up talking about it, then I know I would end up banging my head against my keyboard.
The same with talking about the budget, including the rise in fuel prices, so instead, I thought I would talk about the Olympics.
I was at Hereford Sixth Form College yesterday for the press launch of the Olympic Torch Relay.
More will be revealed in next week's paper (nice plug there by myself) but the main thing that came out was a commitment to get all of the county involved and to leave a lasting legacy.
The torch is to pass through most of Herefordshire and it would be fantastic for the county to see something so iconic for what would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Olympics is one of those events that unites the country - especially if Great Britain is doing well - and in my opinion it is fantastic that it is being held in the UK.
The Games are not just about London, and that is why the torch passing through Herefordshire is brilliant as everyone in the county can get involved and show their patriotism.
With the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and Euro 2012, not to mention the Paralympics as well, this summer is shaping up to be a great one.
Let's just hope England don't let the side down at the Euros like they usually do!
Meanwhile, another sporting extravaganza is taking place on Sunday - Wrestlemania!
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, it is the World Wrestling Entertainment's showpiece event.
I know not everyone loves wrestling, but I love it and have done for most of my life.
Sunday is the twenty-eighth Wrestlemania and should be a belter.
The main event is John Cena versus The Rock - the poster boy of today against one one of yesterday.
I think Cena will just edge it, even though I'll be rooting for the Rock.
The other big match is The Undertaker (yes he is still wrestling) versus Triple H in a Hell in the Cell match.
The Undertaker is undefeated at Wrestlemania and I can't see him losing.
What is not in doubt though is that it should a great match.
NB: If anyone wants to offer me any predictions as to when Hereford's traffic problems will be sorted, drop me a line.
I will go 1/100 that the problems will still be the same over the weekend!
