JACK Ward’s shots are currently the toast of Ross Juniors Football Club – five months after he quit playing for the team.

The nine-year-old, a pupil at Walford Primary School in Ross-on-Wye, has been appointed club photographer of Juniors’ Under 10s side after developing the hobby while watching his former teammates play.

“Jack quit playing for the team at the end of last season because he wasn’t enjoying it as much as he used to, but he still has to come down with me to watch them each weekend because his twin, Callum, plays for them,” said mum, Rachel.

“Instead of Jack just standing on the touchline each game, one of the parents, Sarah Herriot, brought a camera down and showed him how to use it.”

The youngster, who lives on Walford Road in Ross, took to it immediately and now takes photos of each match. He appears to be growing into the role and has already had his work published.

“Some of his first photos were of the floor, and some were of the sky, but a lot are very good and he’s getting better each week,” said Rachel.

The photos Jack takes of each match are shown to parents, who then decide which one is to be sent to the area’s newspapers.

“He is very proud when his photos go in and he sees his name in the paper,” Rachel added.

“Photography may be something he wants to go into when he’s older.”
