A ROSS-on-Wye school is celebrating after scooping a top prize for its community project.

John Kyrle High School was awarded the overall regional prize in the West Midlands Market Towns awards for its adult and community mobile IT project.

The school, which also won the social and community category, will now go on to the national final of the competition.

John Doherty, senior administration officer at the school, said: “We were delighted to receive the social and community award and absolutely overwhelmed to win the overall regional prize.

“I must give credit to the centre manager Paul Mason for his tireless dedication to adult and community learning over the past two years and we look forward to attending the national final in October.”

The school’s adult and community learning centre opened in February 2006, and a mobile IT suite was funded by the Market Town Initiative, which is sponsored by Advantage West Midlands.

Ross Live! also enjoyed success at the awards and won the environmental and cultural category.
