Leominster wife’s sudden death was due to brain haemorrhage

8:00am Friday 27th August 2010

A GRIEVING Leominster husband has spoken of the night his wife of 46 years died suddenly.

Gilbert Powell was at home with wife Christine on April 26 this year when she collapsed at the foot of the stairs.

An ambulance was called to their Holland Road home and the 63- year-old was taken to Hereford County Hospital where she died early the next morning.

“I remember telling the ambulance driver that I thought she had knocked herself out,” Mr Powell told a Hereford inquest this week.

“She had no recent health problems.”

Pathologist Dr Mark Hayes said Mrs Powell had suffered a brain haemorrhage which was likely to have caused the fall.

Deputy county Mark Bricknell said the cause of death was a subdural haemorrhage.

He recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
