THE flouting of an alcohol ban near a Leominster beauty spot has prompted demands for greater CCTV coverage.
Members of Leominster Town Council have become concerned at the amount of beer cans and wine bottles left at the Grange, which has a drinks ban in place to deter anti-social behaviour.
One councillor questioned why the littering and anti-social behaviour is not picked up by the CCTV control centre and passed to police.
“The litter in one case recently was so prominent and we need to do something about it,” said Councillor Eddie Clark.
“Our main concern is that the Grange is such an important part of Leominster for both residents and visitors.
“A lot of effort goes into keeping the area clean and tidy and we should keep it this way.”
Coun Clark said he would have hoped the latest episode would have been picked up by the two CCTV cameras – which the town council helps to fund – and reported.
He added that “high profile fines” should be issued to culprits caught drinking or littering in the area.
Speaking to the council, Adrian Turton of the Safer Herefordshire group, told members that he would make footage available to the town’s Community Protection Team (CPT) and would ask for increased CCTV on the Grange area.
