HEREFORDSHIRE Council has confirmed the closure of some schools and roads following this morning's blaze in Leominster.

Leominster Primary and Junior School, Westfield School and the Priory Pupil Referral Unit are closed, leading to the cancellations of some exams.

The Minster College will be in touch with the examination boards, which have contingency plans to deal with these circumstances.

Lugg Valley Transport has cancelled services, as its Southern Avenue depot lies in the exclusion zone.

Parents at Wigmore Primary, Wigmore High and Kingsland Primary were told to find alternative transport for children.

The fire has also affected Leominster Community Hospital, where the Minor Injuries Unit and Outpatients departments are closed. Patients have been encouraged to travel to Hereford County Hospital.

Southern Avenue, Worcester Road and Etnam Street have also been closed, along with the A49 between the Mill Street roundabout and A44 Worcester Road.

Carla Preston, council press officer, said some refuse collections could also be affected by the restrictions.

All trains through Leominster have been cancelled until further notice.
