LEOMINSTER Town Council has officially opened its new offices.

The administration of the council switched from Corn Square to West Street on April 28, but the move became official with the Mayor of Leominster, Councillor Peter McCaull, cutting the ribbon last week.

He said he was delighted the council had been able to preserve such a piece of Leominster’s heritage and open it as a public building.

Clerk Christina Bromage said the town council had wanted to make the move several years ago.

“It didn’t happen, so when we heard it was up for sale last November we made an offer and got it for £215,000,” she said.

“It is six times the size of the old place – instead of one room we have lots of offices, a council chamber and a kitchen.”

After the ceremony, members of the public joined councillors and staff for a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan, the Mayor’s charity for the year. They raised £220.
