A SHELTERED housing scheme in Ledbury is to close.

Elgar Housing Association, part of the Festival Housing Group, does not believe Turner Court provides the type of accomodation that older people are looking for in 2008.

The building has a high proportion of small bedsits, which the association believes will become more difficult to let as time goes on.

A meeting has been held with residents to inform them of the situation and explain what will happen next.

Clare Huyton, for the housing association, said: “Older people’s aspirations and expectations have changed. People now want to see larger kitchens, room for modern appliances, more living space and car parking spaces.

“None of these can be offered at Turner Court, which is why we are making changes to the accomodation we offer.

“We will be working hard to ensure that all residents affected will be individually supported in planning, choosing and moving to alternative accomodation.”

The association has looked at various options for the future of the building and will keep this under review for the next couple of years, she added.
