A FIRE crew from Newent was called out today to the International Centre for Birds of Prey in the town after a car caught fire in the car park.

The call came at 11.52am and a crew of six firefighters was sent to the scene. On arrival they were faced with a car well alight, with the fire in danger of spreading to other vehicles.

The firefighters used two hose reel and two breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control, but the vehicle, a Vauxhall Zafira, was severely damaged. However, no other cars were damaged.

The crew was on the scene for almost 30 minutes. The cause of the fire was investigated and confirmed as accidental.
