Villagers flee homes over ‘fire threats’

RESIDENTS of the tiny village of Rushall, near Much Marcle, were evacuated from their homes on Monday after threats were made to set fire to a nearby property.

Police officers closed roads in Rushall after first being called to an address in the village at 5.10pm that day.

The police responded in numbers, and the force helicopter was called in.

West Mercia Police said: “Due to the nature of the threats and the presence of a number of gas canisters at the location, residents from two nearby homes were found alternative accommodation, while officers assessed the situation to make sure the property was safe.”

Police investigated the incident and decided there was no credence to the threats.

People were allowed to return to their properties and the road reopened on Wednesday.
