Put a spring in your step with daffodils

WITH the cold weather of recent week, thoughts might be turning to spring and the annual Kempley Daffodil weekend next month.

The popular event offers the opportunity for individuals, groups and families to see the wild daffodils that made this area famous in Edwardian times and led to the name “the golden triangle”.

The daffodils were even celebrated by the Dymock Poets, a group that included Edward Thomas and Robert Frost.

As well as the local countryside, the tours will also take in Kempley village itself, and there will be free parking at the village hall.

Free guided walks to the daffodil fields on March 16 and 17 leave at 11am, 2pm and 2.30pm, and visitors will be able to choose the distances they wish to tackle, to suit all ages and fitness abilities.

Event spokesman Martin Brocklehurst said: “All you need is good shoes and lots of enthusiasm.

“If you are older or disabled or feeling tired, enjoy a free trip in the Daff and Ride bus around the daffodil fields. The bus will leave every 20-30 minutes. Or just enjoy the delights of the village, the Arts and Crafts Movement of Church of St Edward’s built in 1903, or marvel at the ancient frescoes in St Mary’s Church dating from the 12th century.”
